When you hear a loud song that you like on the radio and you turn the volume up to appreciate it in its full glory. Crucially, you don't decrease volume when the song finishes, but repeat the volume increase for the next subsequent loud songs. This means that before too long, your radio is blasting out a noise that threatens the structural integrity of yours and surrounding houses.
